Seen at the Heard

I love when my parents come to visit because we always try something new to do, visit or see that we normally wouldn't. I think we get so used to doing the same old things that we forget to explore all the possibilities out there. Phoenix has quite a diversity of cultures to choose from. The Heard Museum was on the "must see list" and the "best place for out-of-towners to visit" that intrigued my dad to see. The girls were a bit hesistant to be immersed into native American culture, but were engrossed all the same at the exhibits and dancing. I haven't seen a native American dance in quite awhile - the last time was in Utah when I was a teen and we had Relinda, our Navajo student living with us. I'm blown away by the simplicity and beauty of their dancing. The same goes for the fry bread! I haven't had real authentic fry bread since Relinda's! How sad is that? I will say that it was yummy! We had a fantastic afternoon and enjoyed exploring the museum and all the traditions of the 21 native American tribes that call Arizona home.

Meeting the Mesa Hopi dancers.

Enjoying the Mesa Hopi "Winter Soltice" dance.

I haven't been to the heard museum since I was a kid. Wow, it has grown. That's awesome. Maybe we'll go to it the next time we are in town.
