Why all the good shows are on the BBC

I just got caught up last night on the Merlin series currently showing on NBC Sunday nights. It's really sad that this aired in 2008 on the BBC and it wasn't simultaneously shown across the pond :). All of my favorite shows are on BBC America and it's killing me to wait for DR WHO to show over here too. America just doesn't get good drama. Most of our shows are copy cats of BBC originals. For example: American Idol, The Office, Life on Mars. Thank goodness BBC America is starting to pick up on a few current series. If you haven't checked out How to Solve a Problem like Maria? DO!
