"The Town too Tough to Die"

We took a quick little trip down South for the long holiday weekend and ended up in Tombstone, Arizona. Originally, we wanted to use our passports and head to Rocky Point, Mexico for the beach, but the weather forcasted rain all weekend and that didn't seem too fun. Next, we wanted to hit Kartchner Caverns, but they only take a few reservations a day and we missed that opportunity. On the short list was Tombstone. We've never been to southern Arizona so we weren't real sure what to expect...let's just say I'm glad we live where we do! Traveling down I-10 was not fun...I've never seen so much trash on the side of a freeway. The desert was not pretty either. Tucson left little to be desired...only saving grace was Casa Grande had outlets and Piacho had tons of highway stands with fresh pecans and pistachios. We were getting a little nervous that our weekend would be a bust. Finally, the landscape changed a bit, more mountainous and snow capped peaks. Tombstone still holds the charm of a small western town. The kids were complaining that it was too cold. I told them to pack coats and jeans :). This time I let them be in charge of their clothes. Guess they should have listened to mom. It's a good thing I brought their hats and gloves. We had some good grub and fun shopping. Went to "Helldorado," saw the Texas Kate Wild West Show, ate rock candy and visited the petting zoo. We even saw the famous Bird Cage Theatre, laughed at the hilarious cowboy signs and saw the famous Boothill Graveyard where interesting folks are buried. The kids really enjoyed themselves and it was fun to step back in time for a bit!

I've always wanted to go there. It seems like you guys had a great time! I wonder if I should wait until my kids are a little older...
