This blog title really doesn't have anything to do with my post today, just that it's a quirky little line in Elder Ballard's talk from last conference that makes me smile when I reread his counsel. I was reminded of his talk again (it's in the bathroom ha ha) during this mornings move-your-butt-out-the-door, we are going to be late banter with my kids. Amanda was whining about taking notes and making flash cards for social studies and why do we need this stuff anyways blah blah blah blah. I was all ready for my stat reply "because that's just the way it is in middle school. You take notes and do what your teacher says," when I pulled out the if we don't learn these things we will end up repeating, making the same mistakes as previous generations. Anyways, weird little faith-building moment...won't go into our whole conversation as the iron is hot and I need to get the clothes done! Just a quick quote that I love:
Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.
George Santayana
and on a more spiritual note:
One of the great lessons of this historical pattern is that our choices, both individually and collectively, do result in spiritual consequences for ourselves and for our posterity.
Elder M. Russell Ballard
Just something to think about especially given the circumstances arising in our world. I sure want to leave a better place for my kids and you can't text to 'em faith, they need to see it in practice; faith that their parents, teachers and church leaders have in them. Ok, guess I did incorporate it :).
